A canonical Catholic wedding held in Spain is legally valid, for Irish couples and for any nationality, without either of you needing to be a Spanish resident. Once the marriage is registered, it carries full civil effect in Spain, Ireland and across the EU.

You start the prenuptial file with your local diocese in Ireland: a marriage preparation course, the reading of banns and the standard pre-marriage paperwork. It typically takes around 2 months, which is why the whole journey, church file and wedding day, fits comfortably inside our 3-month plan.
Not planning a church wedding? Here is the honest alternative
If a religious ceremony is not for you, Spain still reserves civil marriage for residents, so most non-religious Irish couples celebrate the wedding here and register the legal marriage back home in Ireland instead, before or after the trip. We plan the celebration either way.
